What's best for the child?

I'm a stay at home Mom by choice. I had a $95,000 per year job until the birth of my first child. My husband and I discussed this (not "negotiated") before we were even married and we agreed that it would be best for me to be a stay at home Mom and to home school our children. I hear women talking about what is best for themselves, but when you are a parent, is there no more important mission in life than to raise your children? If you are going to be a career woman and make your children secondary to your career, then why bother to have any? I know in my heart that I am doing what is best for my children and I have no qualms in sacrificing my career aspirations for them, as that is what I have chosen to do. I appreciate any other points of view. I enjoyed visiting the mommytrap website. It was very enlightening.
