My husband took off two months for paternity leave. Some of it was paid and some of it wasn't. He loved it! I loved it! The baby loved it! During the second month, he worked one day a week so his employer didn't feel like work was getting away from my husband. We suffered no retribution, and my husband has always had an easier time taking time for the family since he started out signalling that intention. I know it sounds too good to be true, but that's what happened. And I forgot to mention that our son and my husband have this incredibly close relationship that I really believe was cemented because he was there for the initial bonding. They need time alone together every day and I am only too happy to give it to them.
