: Of course mothers today have more responsibilities than our mothers did. My mother took care of us when we were little. She also had household help. She got no help from my father, though. She did not try to combine motherhood with a career when we were small and there were tons of moms for her to hang with. Plus, she didn't think it was lesser to stay home. Money went farther then too.
: So she had it easier than mothers who stay home and mothers who work. But was it better? I don't really think so. I think she would choose to be more equal, and I have certainly done so.
SHAME on you for making a distinction between stay at home mothers and mothers who "work" - you say she "did not try to combine motherhood with a career" ???? What's this all about, this label of stay at home versus "working" - ?
Sorry, but I don't see that mothers today have "more" responsibilities - what I see are women who throw their children over to strangers or relatives or expect the male of the species to become a homemaker, and that's not natural to the order of things. And mothers today are awfully selfish, relying on everyone else, so I don't think it's at all correct to say they have more responsibilities. More chaos, yes. Overloaded schedules, yes. And that's because they bring it on themselves by overloading and believing they have to involve themselves and their kids in everything that everyone else does. (rollseyes)
Come on people, motherhood is a career. And stay at home mothers (IF they're doing their jobs) work FAR harder and are more dedicated than some office workers - and motherhood is far more important a career than ANY other.
