: How do you do this? On a policy basis?

Paid leave is a good first step. I took it, and it was parental crack -- I realized quickly that I couldn't put in the crazy hours without severely messing up my quality of life.

Flexible or part-time work schedules (which are even better with pro-rated benefits, so that part-timers don't take it on the chin) are also key. But despite the evidence, I don't see a whole lot of companies moving in that direction.

It's not a policy solution, but peer pressure is probably the best bet. Most dads today really want to be there for their kids, but there remains a lack of really good role models. Find a family with an involved dad, and have 'em over for dinner. I think good fathering is contagious.
